Kat van Kaboel


John Philip Freriks (1944), a Dutch journalist and writer, specifically wrote a short story for MatchBoox. ‘Kat van Kaboel’: A cat always remains faithful to his nature, even in tragic circumstances in a war zone. Dutch text with matching illustrations by Martine Brand.

From 1996 to December 2009 he was presenter of the daily news on television (NOS Journaal). In August 2009 he  presented a part of the news from Kabul in Afghanistan, where on August 20 presidential elections were held. As of July 2008 Freriks makes  reports on location in France.

Martine Brand attended the Fashion institute for Fashion Design and the Art Academy for painting in Amsterdam. She worked for various publishers of children’s books including Kluitman, Harper Collins, Casterman and Penguin Books. In 2010 she started a partnership with Michel Haddi Studio Ltd, to create a series of illustrated magazines named Collections by Martine Brand with labels such as Chanel, Dior, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Armani, Versace, YSL, Dolce and Gabbana and many more. The bookazine is available during Fashionweeks and distributed worldwide by Comaq Conde Nast Publications and The International Magazine Company. These magazines are located in the best stores around the world including the Armani store, YSL, Hermes Boutique, Harrods, Selfridges, Corso Como 10, Angora press, Le bon Marche, Art Museums, Escada, WHS Smith and many more. For various labels and magazines Brand has drawn portrets by Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour, Donnatella Versace, Giorgio Armani, Rei Kawakubo, Vivienne Westwood and Madonna.
